Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

Just about everything in included in the room fee.

The room itself and all items in it; all laundry and cleaning; all food, drinks and snacks; all activities in the home; and of course all care provided and any nursing care needed.

Additional costs may be hairdresser, chiropodist, newspapers, external activities (transport to and from).

These are generally provided by the NHS.

We provide a profiling beds, have all appropriate hoists and slings for safe moving and handling.

If there is something specific to you that is needed we will discuss with you about the cost of this and how it will be provided.

We have a 3 week rolling menu, it has a variety of options which are reviewed regularly with residents, families and staff.

Our main meal is lunch and we have a lighter tea, there are always 2 options for each meal. If you don’t like what’s on the menu we will ensure that something else is made for you.

We have homemade cakes daily and fresh fruit.

You can choose to eat in the dining room with other residents or in your room or the lounge.

We can provide food of the appropriate texture using the IDDSI Framework, and with discussion with the Speech and Language Therapist.

We have a huge variety of activities provided by our dedicated Activity Coordinator, Emma. Emma plans weekly schedules that have a variety of things going on.

Each week we usually have exercises, a church or spiritual service, a matinee, singing, and one to one time. We try to get out in the garden regularly or a walk around the Botanics or Inverleith Park which are just over the road.

We also get out and about to a local Dementia Singing Group, The Seagull Trust barge trips, and various afternoon tea dances.

All activities are flexible and adaptable to our residents needs and wants each day.

Yes! We have Wifi across the building.

We support the use of Alexas etc with our residents.

You can visit any time! We do ask that you avoid mealtimes, but if you do want to share a meal with your loved one just let us know and we can support that in their room or the lounge.

You can also bring along your well behaved dog for visits!

If there are restrictions on visiting we will make sure these are for the shortest time possible. We will always support key person visiting, even if there are restrictions.

Yes we have a registered nurse on 24hrs a day.

The manager and deputy manager are also registered nurses.

Our ratios are slightly higher than other homes due to the layout of the home.

The aim is to ensure residents are cared for and safe as much as possible. Our ratios are dependent on resident needs and can change depending on this.

Yes. To ensure resident safety we do need to use agency at times.

We do have a low staff turnover so our use of agency is low. Our staff are very dedicated and do pick up extra shifts if they are able.

Each room is different due to the home being built in the 1800’s. Every room has a profiling bed, arm chair and usual bedroom furniture.

Each room has an ensuite toilet and sink. Some rooms have an ensuite shower.

We encourage you to make your room your own wee home. Bring some pictures to put up or ornaments!

If you want to bring any lamps or electricals that’s no problem, we just need to do a safety test on them.

We provide bedding but you are welcome to bring your own!

If you do want to bring furniture we can have a chat about if it will be safe to do so and fit in the room.

Yes. If we have rooms available you are welcome to come for respite. We have a minimum 2 weeks respite.
